This past week has been filled with so many different emotional events. Some good, some not so good, and others just had to happen.
As I mentioned in my last blog, my official hand-in date for my project was May 31st. On May 30th I set out on a mission to finalize, print and submit my project. I accomplished said goal, but not with out difficulty. Last semester I had the privilege of taking ISA (Integrated Software Applications) at JC. I went through that class thinking that I may never use this information ever again as I have a Mac. I learned/realized how wrong I was. The library computers are PCs, and I struggle with them. Oh well. As I was about to give up, I finally figured out exactly what I needed to do. Next, came the proofing. There are only so many times one can read a 20+ page paper without getting bored and perhaps miss a few of the minor details. But again I prevailed. I was then able to print off said project, the title page, and staple it together, all 40 pages (appendix, references). The next task was figuring out where exactly I had to submit said project. My advisor was kind enough to tell me her name and that her office was located in K3. Big help, I tell you! So, my very kind neighbor, Mihail, came to help me! As we walked through K3, we found the office. To my luck, she was not in. So we went down to the canteen for a coffee break. We went up the second time, she was there, as she started to inform me, in Danish, that I had too many pages and that it could not be submitted that way. My supervisor had told me my project was between 25-30 pages, mine was on the 27th page. Perfect. So I sadly walked back to the library, were I started the process of cutting out information. If you think writing a 25+ page paper is hard, try cutting out two pages. It was a struggle, but I managed. So I re-printed the 38 pages, stapled them together and prayed that she was still in office so I could hand in my project. Thankfully, she was! And I still managed to hand in my project a day early! Now I have free time until my oral defense on the 20th of June! Go me!
On Friday we started the dreaded process of saying goodbye to yet another friend at the AIK, Erica. We went out to lunch at a place called FRIENDS, a restaurant with the theme of the tv show Friends. It was really nice! We got dressed up and enjoyed each others company.
To give her a proper send-off we played Kings Cup that night and went to the street! A great night, almost! I had asked Anne (Denmark) to hold on to my key and bus pass as I didn't want to bring my purse to the street). And she did. Then we got separated. I was upset, because I couldn't find her, but luckily Tiff leant me some money for the bus and Mathias was kind enough to leave my door unlocked when he got home. Like I said, a good night over all!
Saturday was the real goodbye. We managed to get up early and get ready to go with Erica and Juan to the airport. Which we then decided to take a later bus, and then a later one yet. So Juan went ahead without us and we continued to wait for Erica, as she was still rearranging/packing her suitcases/carry-ons. When we finally left, we quietly made our way to the bus stop for the 40 minute ride to the airport. We arrived at the airport where we took some last photos and said our goodbyes.
Myself, Morten, Erica, Tara, Ali, and Mathias--Tiff took the photo!
It was a weird feeling saying goodbye at the airport. Not knowing when exactly we will see Erica again. For Tara and me, we know that it's only a day or two car ride away, but for the others it's a day or two plane ride away. Regardless of when we will all see each other next, we still have some awesome memories to help us! So, to Erica- thanks for an awesome semester in Aalborg. See you soon, friend!
We may have also helped her with her luggage. She may or may not have been the only one in line at the airport. I still forget that Aalborg is considered a 'small airport'.
For some random excitement, Tara and I spontaneously booked a trip to London and Dublin! Leaving the 9th and coming home the 13th! I'm excited to see some new places! And to check some more things off of the good ole bucket list! So my next post will be when I return.
So, last night (Tuesday) Tara, Daniela, Michael, Rasmus, and I decided to go to a free concert outside of the Student House. It was a pretty sweet concert. We listened to some folkish Danish music, a Danish artist that was famous a while back, a Danish rapper (surprisingly really good) and Emmelie de Forest. Which, to us Americans, really means nothing. So let me give you some background info. A few weeks back the Eurovision contest was going on. Every country sends a contestant to this competition where they go through preliminaries and the finalist advance to the final round. Unique to this competition, the singers have to perform an original song and people cannot vote for their home country (so Danes cannot vote for Danes, Austrians can not vote for Austria, etc). This year's winner is Emmelie de Forest, a Dane! Go Denmark! Her winnings, Eurovision gets to be held in Denmark next year! So Emmelie won Eurovision with a song called "Only Teardrops." And yes, she did perform it. It was her first and final song of the night. That's right, she walked on stage, sang her newly-made-famous song, and then left! Not even a thank you or anything to end the concert. She just left the stage followed by the band members on stage a few seconds later. I have never been to a concert where the main performer sings a song and then leaves the stage. It was a unique, one-of-a-kind-concert for sure! It might trump my Aaron Carter concert in 2002! Needless to say, I have now heard "Only Teardrops" in it's entirety, in person.
Like I said a very emotional week. Lots of fun times amongst a sad goodbye! And we may have planned an epic American road trip for next year!
