The past week and few days have been really good. Maybe not as exciting as the last blog with the traveling, canoeing, and getting my residency, but it's been good none the less!
Project work has officially begun! Let me tell you.. when I find my motivation it will get better! So the exciting thing about my new iPad is that it's not connected to the JC Library server. Meaning that all the databases I previously used for research and become familiar with are no longer of access to me! Yay research! After quite a bit of frustrating-going-no-where-in-life-research, I finally remembered that AAU also has a library and a website! I was able to find some databases but thank goodness for Google Scholar! :)
However, with all the project work going on things have quieted down, a lot! Everyone either hiding in the library, their room, or if you're me, sitting in the common area, working hard! It's weird to not have classes any more but a little scary knowing that my grade comes from this project! Let's hope I do well!
So we also got the excitement of celebrating THREE birthdays in the past week and a half!
The first birthday was Micha's! We helped Micha's frost her rainbow cake, had some classy wine, and may have interrupted a little 'French Party' of our French friends (Matthieu, Hugo, Fabien, Jeff, and another one of their friends)! It was fun as the small get together became a celebration of Micha!
The second birthday was Tiffs! We celebrated Tiff's birthday with a dinner and cake made by Ali's Mom (Carol) and Aunt (Judy)! It was super fun! We continued to hang out and eventually the vodka came out! It was a unique night! We had originally planned on going to the Street but decided to stay in. Still fun!
And finally we got to celebrate my 22nd! Guess who is getting old! This kid! I was able to skype with Aubrey the night before which was wonderful! I had a pretty good day as well! I was able to skype my parents, who got up early, and open the gift that my grandparents and them had sent me! I love getting new things! And that evening a few of us went out to the street! We were told there would be free alcohol at some of the bars, so we were excited for that! Turns out those bars are not open on Wednesdays! A little upsetting, but the five of us, Ali, Michael, Tara, Erica, and I, managed to have fun! At the Studenthouse we ran into Fabien, Hugo, and Karin (all from France) so that was cool! We came home relatively early but it was a great birthday!
We have had some great weather here recently! We've been able to use the grill outside for supper one night! Feels like summer is on the way! Saturday evening we sat outside for about 2 hours and Sunday afternoon we were out getting our tan on! It's not quite that warm, but it was nice to get some Vitamin D! It's weird to have 60+ weather here but it's almost May so I shouldn't complain. I mean I could be back home with the however many snow storms they have had! Ali, Micha, Erica, Tara, and I also went for a walk late Sunday afternoon to a little park and to 'The Hill'! The weather was gorgeous and there is a great view of Aalborg from 'The Hill'!
On Friday Haiyong made supper for Ali, Micha, Erica, Tara, and I! It was sooooooo good! I was brave and even tried a mushroom (I'll ignore the laughing)! We also had the monthly Friday Bar in our kollegium! It was a lot of fun! It's one of the times when the Danes and Internationals mix and have a grand time!
This past weekend we also had to say goodbye to Micha as her program ended and she's heading to Tanzania soon! So we made a weekend of it! Saturday we had our final supper with Micha. We decided to do a crepe supper which we had done a while back! It was a lot of fun, making the food and then devouring them! We also had a very chill wine night. We also bought her a map and had everyone sign it! She loved it! On Sunday we went for a walk and got some last photos in! Sunday night we had another wine night and Monday morning we walked her to the door and watched as she drove away!
It's not fun to say goodbye or watch someone leave not knowing when we will see them again. But on the plus side, we will always have the memories, photos, and skype to help us remember and stay in contact! However, I think it all made us think about when we will be leaving. We will have a ton of memories and lots of stories to share but we have become a family here. It will be hard when we leave. But one day at a time! I've still got a lot to do here before I leave!
